A School Bus Hit By A U-Haul In California, Injuring 13 Kids

A school bus today collided with a U-Haul today near Victorville, CA. Thirteen children were injured, as well as the bus driver. The accident was caused after the U-Haul backed out of a driveway and somehow missed the bus. The Galileo Academy school bus swerved out of the way to avoid the large transportation vehicle, but it turned out the maneuver was too little, too late. At the time of the accident, there were around 40 children waiting to be dropped off by the bus.

In what was probably the most frightening day in the lives of the young souls on board, the U-Haul vehicle ran into the rear part of the school bus, causing the bus to flip on to one side. According to the L.A. Times, two children were hurt fairly severely and had to be transported to the Loma Linda University Medical Center. The other 11 injured children (and the bus driver) were sent to other nearby hospitals.

The crash is currently under investigation, but I have a feeling it’s not looking all that good for the U-Haul driver. If there’s anything I’ve learned from the California Driver’s test, it’s that school buses—and their precious cargo—generally have the right away. Plus, anyone backing out of a driveway generally is at fault in the crash. At the very least, it’s extremely lucky that none of the people on the bus were fatally injured. Neither of the people sitting in the U-Haul suffered any injuries
