Over the past few weeks, the New York Giants have experienced a flood of back injuries. At least five players, Will Beatty, James Brewer, Martin Parker, Terrell Thomas and Marvin Austin, have publically admitted to hurting their’s during training camp. If you take it from the team spokesman, each has occurred for different reasons, but if you take it from many of the players themselves, there is something far more upsetting and sinister going on: the beds they were provided suck.
The Giants are currently holding camp at the University of Albany, which means the players must stay in the dorms. Unfortunately, the beds inside said dorms are tiny, and for most of the non-kickers, that creates a big mattress problem. Here’s how tight end Martellus Bennett summed it up to ESPN…
”Every bed is small. You can't put a damn dinosaur in a twin-sized bed.”
Injured lineman James Brewer refused to even call his sleeping arrangement a “bed”. He said he’s been given a “little kid’s cot” to sleep on. Defensive tackle Linval Joseph has his own issue too. He’s less bothered by the size and more bothered by how incredibly hard his mattress is. He’s woken up sore every morning, and he’s heard from several other guys who feel the same way.
The organization claims it hasn’t heard one negative comment about the bed situation. Apparently, no one has bothered talking to any of the players. Luckily for all involved, they’re due to head home to their own beds soon.
