Watch This Gleefully Violent Trailer For Judge Dredd: Superfiend

Hungry for more action from the universe of Judge Dredd but can’t wait another decade to see a feature follow-up to Dredd? Look no further than this very first trailer for the bootlegged web miniseries Judge Dredd: Superfiend, which shares the film’s producer Avi Shankar.

That was incredible! Albeit in a less extravagant way than, say, the Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer was incredible. Shankar introduces the vid, explaining its absolute lack of a connection to the official 2000 AD comics or anyone else involved in owning Judge Dredd licenses. Like Shankar’s other bootlegged spinoffs The Punisher: Dirty Laundry and Venom: Truth in Journalism, Judge Dredd: Superfiend is delightfully over-the-top and full of angst and madcap aggression.

There isn’t much of a plot synopsis to bleed out at this point, but it’s an origin story for Judge Death and based on the Dark Judges stories from 2000 AD. That guy with what looks like 3,000 teeth? That’s Judge Death himself, the most evil of the bunch. He became a Judge to legally murder people, and then went kind of power-mad and wanted all living things to die. The other Judges (Fire, Fear and Mortis) come into the story later, once things head to Deadworld. But before that, we get to watch a guy get his lower jaw torn off.

”judge

“The real crime is life.” That’s basically this guy’s mantra, and he’s dedicated to taking everything out. He gets more screentime than Dredd in this trailer, which mixes standard animation with some crazy 3D-rendered scenes. It seems like none of this would make sense to someone who’s never heard of this. Giant floating hamburger restaurant? Check. Disembodied heads where hands should be? Check. The only thing missing is Rob Schneider, and that’s a good thing. Here’s how Shankar ironically described the webseries on the YouTube page.

Just so we are clear, this is a different interpretation of the character and the universe, an interpretation that is family friendly and geared towards little children.”

Hey, who’d have thought there would be YouTube commenter who didn’t understand the tone? This most certainly adult animated miniseries was written and directed by Spanish filmmakers Enol and Luis Pelayo Juniquera, and you can expect to find it blasting its way onto the Internet on Monday, October 27.
