Prison Break Is Coming Back, Get The Details

These days, when a TV show gets cancelled, it’s an even money bet that it may not stay cancelled forever. Usually, however, the cancelled series pops up via another outlet, be it a network or streaming service, and that makes the news that Prison Break, now the latest series to come back from the dead, being revived at Fox something of an anomaly.

According to TV Line, the network is working on a revival of the series, which starred Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell and ran on its airwaves from 2005 through 2009. This will be a limited series affair, and will reportedly reunite the two stars, who played brothers that, you guessed it, escaped from prison in the original run. There was more to the story than that, but that’s the overall plotline.

Aside from what we’ve already said, there’s not much more to the report. Concrete details are being kept under wraps for the time being, but should this happen, and it’s not a definite thing just yet, it would likely be similar in size and scope to the network’s recent revisitation of 24, 2014’s 24: Live Another Day. This means it will likely feature roughly a dozen episodes and revolve around a single story arc that doesn’t leave things particularly open at the end.

Both Miller and Purcell have stayed busy since the cancellation of Prison Break. Miller has appeared in a bunch of movies, even writing the script for Park Chan-wook’s English-language debut, the thriller Stoker a few years ago. Purcell has filled his time appearing in a ton of low-budget action movies where he generally plays gruff tough guys.

The two TV brothers did reunite recently on the CW’s new superhero adventure The Flash. Miller plays the comic book villain Leonard Snart, also known as Captain Cold, while Purcell plays Mick Rory, better known as his alter ego Heat Wave, on the popular adaptation of the DC Comics title. They will also reprise their roles and reunite next year on the Flash/Arrow spinoff Legends of Tomorrow, which is slated to premiere sometime in the middle of next season.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens with the Prison Break reunion event series. This is an idea that has been kicked around the block a few times already over the last couple of years, but there hasn’t been much in the way of movement. 20th Century Fox, of course, declined to comment on the matter, but with this news it appears that there is at least enough substance to keep fans hopeful that they’ll be able to see more Prison Break in the future.
