For seven seasons, Sarah Michelle Gellar rose to fame playing the mostly fearless vampire-dusting Buffy Summers on a drama that turned into a cult phenomenon and launched its creator to the blockbuster life. It's not a gig one compartmentalizes in the back of the brain and goes on with life, and Gellar holds it especially close, since she basically turned into an adult during its run. When commenting on where Buffy the Vampire Slayer's titular lead would be today, the actress unsurprisingly hoped for the best.
That doesn't sound like a bad time in the slightest. Lots of sun, sand, suds and an all around lack of fanged monsters and needs for resurrections. It is the kind of life that most of us would want, despite not having lived through the entirety of Buffy the Vampire Slayer's horrifying events.
Luckily, it would (probably) be extremely easy to settle into a location without a Hellmouth nearby. The show was centered on the one beneath Sunnydale High School in California, and the only other one that was ever specifically mentioned was one in Cleveland, Ohio. So there are lots of places around the globe for Buffy to amass tingle moments on a beach without being in close proximity of Cali or Ohio. Buffy in Brazil has a nice ring to it.
Unfortunately, we're not likely ever going to see what Buffy Summers is up to in 2017 or beyond, at least in any live-action formats. Sarah Michelle Gellar has been pretty vocal in the past about not wanting to return to the Buffy the Vampire Slayer universe for any revivals or reunions. In fact, her answer about Buffy's current existence was in response to a question from THR about how she feels about whether the show should be revived or not. She started the answer by saying she believes the show's heart is tied to Buffy's formative years and that time of a person's life, and while it could work in an adult setting, she isn't sure how.
I'm with her on this one, although if there was like another spinoff that Buffy and some of the other Scoobies could just RECUR in, that would be swell. Of course, I would also be into Buffy Summers herself being the subject of a faux reality show in the style of Mariah's World, where she's living on said beach and talking about her past. Not for everyone, probably.
Until we hear something more positive coming from the Buffy-verse, we'll just have to settle with everything that actually is on TV now. Head to our midseason premiere schedule to find out what's hitting the small screen soon.
