If there's one thing that fans of Netflix's Stranger Things have managed to agree upon since the show debuted over the summer, it's the fact that Barb deserved better. Shannon Purser's straight edge best friend to Nancy Wheeler became an absolute fan-favorite during her short run on the series, and fans have clamored for the actress to join many other different fictional universes -- particularly now that it looks like Barb may not be coming back for Season 2. With that in mind, it now looks like there will finally be #JusticeForBarb, as Shannon Purser is going to make the jump to The CW on the third episode of Riverdale.
A new report from Heroic Hollywood confirms that Shannon Purser will make her Riverdale debut on the third episode of the upcoming freshman series. The CW adaptation of the classic Archie comic series will see the Stranger Things actress make her introduction in a guest appearance as a character named Ethel Muggs for a three-episode arc. Like most of the characters who will appear on Riverdale, Ethel Muggs is a (rather loose) adaptation of an actual Archie character who dates all the way back to 1962. She has romantic connections with Jughead Jones (portrayed by Dylan Sprouse on The CW series), but considering the insane changes the show has already made to the Archie universe, it's nearly impossible to tell where the series will take this character.
This instance isn't the first time that Shannon Purser has received support for a role in an adaptation of a comic book property. Since becoming a household name on Stranger Things, the actress' name has been consistently thrown around for the possible role of Doreen Green if Marvel Studios ever decides to pursue a Squirrel Girl project. There's no definitive confirmation that such a project will ever actually materialize, but if Shannon Purser does well with the role of Ethel Muggs on Riverdale, then she will have proven herself capable of adapting an existing character. #JusticeForBarb, and #BarbForSquirrelGirl!
