Into The Badlands Renewed For Season 3 At AMC, And There's More Good News

AMC has become one of the top places on TV for genre series, and martial arts drama Into the Badlands is unlike anything else currently on the small screen. The show is currently airing its second season, and the ratings have apparently been good enough for AMC to officially give the renewal order. Into the Badlands will be back for a third season, and that's not even the only good news on the Badlands front.

The third season of Into the Badlands will run for 16 episodes, which is a sizable bump from its first two years on the air. Season 1 was ordered for a mere six episodes, and Season 2 was only bumped by four episodes up to 10; fans will get to see six more hours in Season 3 than they'll have gotten in Season 2.

Fans have had to be pretty patient, all things considered. Although Into the Badlands was renewed for Season 2 back in March 2016, it didn't return to the airwaves until a year later in March 2017. Luckily, THR reports that Season 3 is slated to debut in 2018, so we don't have to fear another year without any new episodes.

Season 2 has averaged 3.6 million overall viewers so far, scoring a solid 2.1 in the 25-54 age demographic in Live+3 day ratings. The numbers make Into the Badlands the fourth-ranked scripted drama on cable. It also ranks fourth among returning dramas on cable, coming behind The Walking Dead with its typical massive ratings, American Horror Story, and Walking Dead spinoff Fear the Walking Dead. AMC isn't breaking any records with Into the Badlands, but the network is in need of series that score consistently respectable ratings, and Badlands definitely qualifies.

Into the Badlands picked up in Season 2 with Sunny and M.K. separated and imprisoned. M.K.'s struggles to control his powers made his new life quite difficult, and Sunny's determination to return to the Badlands (or die in the effort) have kept him busy. New allies and new enemies have debuted, and relationships will undoubtedly be shifted forever by the time the action of Season 2 comes to an end. The show has built on the action of the first season and delivered pretty solid episodes so far.

For those who doubted that the show continue after how Season 1 ended, Season 2 should reassure that Badlands will be able to find new ways to continue its stories no matter what happens next. You can catch new episodes on Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on AMC.
