How This Is Us' Season 2 Premiere Will Address Jack's Death

Jack in the living room in This Is Us

Perhaps the biggest breakout hit of last fall's television schedule was NBC's This is Us. The heart wrenching family drama has been applauded for its performances, riveting plot, and diverse cast of characters. But much of the buzz round the series revolves around the Pearson family's timeline, especially how the characters in the present have been affected by the loss of father/husband Jack (Milo Ventimiglia). The fandom is eager to find out exactly how Jack died, as its only referred to vaguely by the rest of the family- especially Kate. And now it appears that Season 2's premiere will feature some more clues about Jack's death.

This is Us creator Dan Fogelman recently spoke to EW about the show's highly anticipated sophomore season, and Season 1's Emmy campaign. It's in this conversation where Fogelman revealed how the premiere episode of Season 2 will address Jack's death, and how the big mystery will be handled in the upcoming season. He said:

The first episode of the season holds not all the answers but a huge piece of the puzzle. [How Jack died will be answered] over the course of the season. [But] that's not to say new questions won't start being asked.

This should be a relief to the many This is Us viewers out there. It looks like we'll have a definitive answer as to how Jack died before Season 2 is over. And new information will surface as early as the Season 2 premiere.

Many fans of This Is Us were disappointed to not receive any more information about Jack's death during Season 1's finale. The penultimate episode ended with a major cliffhanger, as Jack drove drunk to Rebecca's gig. Many thought this drunk driving episode would result in tragedy, but we instead saw an altercation with Rebecca's bandmate (True Blood's Sam Trammell) put a major wedge between the show's central couple. Jack temporarily moved out of the house to stay with Miguel, and the fandom was left wondering WTF just happened.

But with Jack's death being the show's major mystery, it makes sense that This is Us would milk that far into Season 2. The siblings still seem to be extremely damaged by his passing, so it should be heartbreaking to see where each of them were at the point of Jack's death. Furthermore, it should be interesting to see how This is Us functions once the question of Jack's death is no longer an aspect of the viewing experience.

This is Us doesn't currently have a premiere date for Season 2, but be sure to check back with us here at CinemaBlend for updates on the acclaimed drama. In the meantime, check our summer premiere list and plan your next binge watch!
