Warning: possible spoilers ahead for the next episode of Game of Thrones, called "Death Is the Enemy."
Season 7 has seen Game of Thrones characters going in some unexpected directions. Cersei may or may not be pregnant. Arya is falling for Littlefinger's scheme. Gendry is no longer rowing. Now, a photo for the next episode has been released, and it may hint that the show really is going to explore the idea of Tyrion Lannister as a secret Targaryen. Take a look:
While Jon is north of the Wall on the mission to retrieve a wight to prove to Cersei that the Great War is coming, Tyrion and Dany are hanging out together in Dragonstone, and it looks like they'll both be pretty friendly with the dragons. The photo shows Tyrion and Dany walking the grounds of Dragonstone with Rhaegal and Viserion looking on. We can't see either Tyrion's' or Dany's face clearly, but neither seems to be afraid that a dragon is going to roast Tyrion.
This isn't the first time that Tyrion has been able to walk amongst Rhaegal and Viserion without incident. Back in Meereen in Season 6, Tyrion ventured down into their midst to remove their chains while Dany and Drogon were away from the city, and he was the first person other than Dany herself to get comfortably close to the full-grown dragons. Rhaegal and Viserion were surprisingly fine with Tyrion.
This new glimpse of Tyrion with Rhaegal and Viserion marks the second time in as many episodes that somebody other than Dany has gotten close to a dragon. Drogon allowed Jon to approach and even touch him in "Eastwatch" in a scene that was a clear nod to Jon's status as a secret Targaryen. Perhaps the show is giving a nod to Tyrion's status as another secret Targaryen by putting him back among the dragons in "Death Is the Enemy."
Then again, maybe Tyrion is just good with dragons and Dany's kids understand that he doesn't mean them any harm. He doesn't have to be another secret Targaryen to necessarily get along with Rhaegal and Viserion; dragons are magical creatures that can apparently sense Jon's status as a Targaryen when even Jon himself is unaware. Maybe they just have a good feeling about Tyrion. We'll have to wait and see. Given all the clues that have been dropped in the show and in the books, Tyrion could easily be revealed as a third Targaryen.
Whether he's a Targaryen or not, Tyrion will evidently get plenty of quality time with Dany in "Death Is the Enemy," as the two will have what appears to be a fireside chat:
