Spoilers ahead for Game of Thrones Season 7.

After eight seasons and countless brutal character deaths, Game of Thrones will be ending at the end of its next season. And while we're likely to have to wait well over a year for the conclusion, the cast is gearing up to film Westeros' last chapter. One of these is Daenerys Targaryen herself, actress Emilia Clarke. In a unexpected twist, Clarke has decided to finally go blonde for Season 8, putting aside the stunning and complex wigs she's been rocking since Day 1. She broke the news on social media, check it out below.

If that doesn't pump you up for Season 8, you might not be a believer in Dany after all. Emilia Clarke's Instagram post has already lit up with comments and likes, with the fandom excited to see the actress step further into the role that made her a star.

While a hair change doesn't necessarily sound exciting under normal circumstances, Daenerys' blonde hair is one of the character's most iconic traits. The Targaryens were historically known for their flowing blonde locks, and hers represent the last of her family's blood line. Many book purists originally believed that Emilia Clarke's natural brunette should have disqualified her from the role, but she's played Dany with a ferocity and vulnerability over the course of the past seven seasons that she's won everyone over, earning herself three Emmy noms in the process.

One has to note that Emilia Clarke was sweet and appreciative enough to thank the wig team that had been transforming her into Daenerys for nearly a decade. Game of Thrones' hair and costumes are always stunning, and Dany has worn a variety of iconic looks that reflected her status at the time. She's also accrued braids over the years, a Dothraki tradition for marking victories. So while Clarke is now rocking Dany's color, she'll still need to wear a fair amount of additional hair to continue Khaleesi's signature look.

It should be interesting to see how Dany's appearnce continues to change with Season 8, especially considering the various plot points revolving around her personal life and quest for The Throne. Season 7's finale saw Dany and Jon finally connect physically, only for Bran to reveal to the audience that they're actually related. Jon is her brother's son, making Dany Jon's Aunt. When this revelation meets the pair in Winterfell, there should be some pretty strong feelings had by all. Additionally, Dany is gearing up to battle the dead, including a recently zombified version of her dragon Viserion, and must also defeat Cersei for the Iron Throne.

Luckily, we'll be able to see Emilia Clarke during the long wait until Season 8, as the Untitled Han Solo film will be released May 25th, 2018. In the meantime, check out our fall premiere list to plan your next binge watch.
