The Mayor And One More Just Got Some Great News From ABC

This fall season has had its ups and downs for ABC's new shows. On one hand, The Good Doctor has been a huge success and is one of the most watched shows this season. Conversely, Ten Days In The Valley has struggled and is making the move to Saturday nights. Now, it appears the scale is tipping positive for their other two new offerings as The Mayor and Kevin (Probably) Saves The World both just got some great news from ABC, as the latter received an order of three more episodes and The Mayor got three more script orders.

The news comes from Deadline, which notes the three additional episodes for Kevin (Probably) Saves The World are welcome news for a series that is in one of ABC's toughest time slots. 10 p.m. ET is not the easiest way for a show to thrive on ABC, but recently the ratings showed signs that the series may be on the come up. After weeks of declining ratings since its premiere, Kevin (Probably Saves The World) had its first raise with 1.9 million viewers tuning in for a 7% increase over the week prior. For now, that seems to be enough for Kevin to save the show (probably).

For The Mayor, the news is also promising. The series which centers around a struggling local hip-hop artist who becomes mayor is in a bit of a pickle. The show had strong reviews upon launch and boasts an incredibly talented cast, but it's not performing as well as its competition in its 9:30 p.m. ET timeslot on Tuesdays. There are rumors that ABC, who doesn't want to give up on their highly publicized comedy so quickly, is in talks to bump the series to an earlier time slot and see if that won't draw more eyes to the series.

Whether or not the shorter orders are to make room for midseason offerings is unknown, but it's worth noting that ABC is stacked for its early 2018 offerings. The network has two dramas from network television juggernaut Shonda Rhimes on the way, and Roseanne is coming back to television as well. With shows like that waiting in the wings, it's not all that surprising that the network is only granting short orders to these freshman comedies.

The Mayor airs Tuesdays at 9:30 p.m. ET on ABC, and is followed promptly by Kevin (Probably) Saves The World at 10 p.m. ET. Both shows futures look positive, but things are still very much up in the air given their performances in the ratings.
