Warning: Spoilers ahead for the Season 14 finale of Grey's Anatomy. Catch up before reading!
Well, ABC's Grey's Anatomy had its Season 14 finale, and while it was blissfully free of explosions, fires and otherwise putting our favorite television doctors in serious peril, that doesn't mean that the episode was without its notable reveals. Specifically, when Kim Raver's Teddy Altman revealed, in last moments of the finale, that she's pregnant. Now we know how the show is going to handle that cliffhanger as Season 15 gets underway, because Raver will, once again, be a series regular.
That's right, in case you were wondering how Grey's Anatomy could possibly deal with the fallout from the news that Teddy is (probably) having Owen's baby, especially now that he and Amelia seem pretty close to getting back together, your answer is that Teddy will be around a lot once the new season begins. Those who watched the finale will likely also remember that Teddy told Bailey that she came back looking for a job. Later, Bailey, who said she wanted to step back from her position as chief of surgery so she could fall in love with her work again and spend more time with her family, offered the job of interim chief to Teddy, meaning that she'll probably accept the gig so she can stick around.
I can't help but wonder how long it will take for Teddy's news to get out. In the finale, she clearly wasn't planning to tell anyone she was pregnant, but did so to a patient who noticed that she was emotional and touching her stomach a lot. So, when Season 15 starts, none of the main (or even secondary) cast of characters will even know that Teddy is expecting yet. And, when the news finally hits Owen, it's bound to have a big impact, whether he's the father or not. Despite their other relationships, Teddy has had a thing for Owen for a long time, so if she's actually been able to move on to extent of having a baby with someone else, I can imagine him getting kind of jealous.
Kim Raver was a part of the main cast of Grey's Anatomy from Season 6 through Season 8, and appeared in the, recently completed, Season 14 on a recurring basis. In the report from TV Line, the actress noted how "thrilled" she was to be coming back to the show as a regular, which, fans will note, is coming on the heels of the show losing regulars Sarah Drew and Jessica Capshaw.
You can see how they handle Teddy's baby news on Grey's Anatomy when Season 15 starts this fall. For more on what to watch in the coming weeks, check out our summer premiere guide.
