Stephen Amell Says The Elseworlds Crossover Has A Huge Smallville Reference

The CW, Arrow-verse

Good news and bad news, Smallville fans. Arrow star Stephen Amell shared an update on his own Smallville tease, after tweeting that photo with Tom Welling (Clark Kent) and Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor). Turns out, no, the actors are not going to be in the upcoming "Elseworlds" Arrow-verse crossover. Bummer. Instead, as many suspected, they are collaborating with Amell's Nocking Point wine business, which is launching a monthly wine club curated by celebrities.

But wait! There's more! Stephen Amell did offer Smallville fans a huge "Elseworlds" carrot -- and a warning that they may be so excited they'll ... need to go #1:

It is not a Smallville reunion, although I think it becomes pretty clear in the promos for the crossover that there are Smallville elements, at least, in terms of location. And if you're a fan of Smallville, and I have no idea if they're going to keep this in the final cut, but there's a treat for you in there. ... Full disclosure, I've never seen an episode of Smallville before. Sorry! I wasn't that into comic book TV shows when I was growing up. I've since seen a couple, for very obvious reasons. But as someone who wasn't a diehard fan of Smallville, this moment in the crossover made me jump out of my seat. If you're a fan of Smallville, you may want to put down rubber sheets or something like that, because, quite frankly, you might piss your pants.

Wow. So even as a non-Smallville fan he jumped out of his seat. Fair warning to true Smallville fans to, um, wear extra protection?

Stephen Amell shared his comments during a lengthy Facebook video chat with fans. There's a lot of good intel in there for Arrow-verse fans. As he noted, there's only one more episode of Arrow before the 2018 crossover begins. He's very proud of that episode -- the December 3 episode "Unmasked" -- and he repeated that the crossover this year is something he's really proud of as well.

The Oliver Queen/Green Arrow actor added that, as much as fans may have seen in the crossover photos and promos, we do not know everything. Many secrets are being kept safe. Stephen Amell has been responsible for sharing a lot of details himself on his Twitter feed, which is always a great source of behind-the-scenes intel.

Stephen Amell recently said that this crossover may not have been the most rewarding, but it was the most fun he's had throughout the course of doing the show. We know he has a major role ahead, with the big switcheroo between Oliver and The Flash's Barry Allen.

The Arrow-verse's 2018 "Elseworlds" crossover begins next Sunday, December 9 at 8 p.m. ET on The Flash, then continues with Arrow on Monday, December 10 and Supergirl on December 11. Here's what else is still ahead in 2018 and what's to come in midseason 2019.

Gina grew up in Massachusetts and California in her own version of The Parent Trap. She went to three different middle schools, four high schools, and three universities -- including half a year in Perth, Western Australia. She currently lives in a small town in Maine, the kind Stephen King regularly sets terrible things in, so this may be the last you hear from her.
