Love Island Star Blinded In One Eye After Cork Accident

Theo Campbell, whom Love Island aficionados may recognize from Season 3, recently lost sight in one of his eyes after coming into contact with a champagne cork. The accident left him with no vision in his right eye and forced him to go under the knife for two surgeries so far.

Yet Theo Campbell, who is also expected to appear on the upcoming season of MTV's  The Challenge, which fans formerly knew as the Real World/ Road Rules Challenge, says he is looking at the bight side of things following his accident. In fact, the reality star says he is trying to stay positive given he still has his vision in his left eye rather than looking back with anger about what happened.

He even went so far as to share a look at the injury, which is currently bandaged and healing (at least somewhat, although he says the champagne cork split his eye in half, leading to full vision loss).

Reports indicate that Theo Campbell had been in Ibiza and partying when he was hit with the cork from a champagne bottle. Someone else opened the bottle, according to reports over at OK. Someone onsite when the incident occurred even referred to Campbell’s accident as looking as if “his eye had exploded,” which is just all kinds of horrifying to envision.

The reality star was hospitalized afterward and posted to his Instagram stories prior to the official response above.

The girlfriend of 28-year-old Campbell, Kaz Crossley, also shared her experience with staying with Theo Campbell following the unfortunate accident. Kaz Crossley, who was also a Love Island participant, also took to her own social media to share more regarding what happened, noting,

It's been a hard 24 hours. No one here speaks English and he was taken for hours at one point and I had no clue he was in surgery again. I've stayed in his room over night and just wanna take him home. He's so brave and positive hopefully it will get better, thanks for your kind messages. I hope this will make people aware of the dangers at these parties and to be more careful.

There are tons of guides for how to open champagne bottles correctly, but that doesn’t stop people from agitating champagne liquid before they open bottles or pointing bottles straight at people while the cork explodes out of the bottle. Given that champagne corks can travel up to 50 miles per hour, they can and do often cause eye injuries.

Given The Challenge has already filmed and Season 34 started airing this week, his eye injury shouldn’t have an effect on Theo Campbell’s current reality TV career. Still, it’s a lesson in practicing caution, even and maybe particularly when partying. You don't want to be the person who's famous for blinding a reality star.
