Despite Coronavirus, One Marvel Series Was Actually Able To Finish Production

The coronavirus still making its way across the Hollywood landscape and, as a result, numerous projects continue to be delayed. Marvel Studios is one of the affected studios, as the superhero powerhouse has been forced to stop production on films like Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and halt work on almost all of their Disney+ shows. However, it looks like one show has managed to power through and reach the end of its shoot.

Thanks to a now-deleted Instagram post, we now know that Marvel’s Helstrom has wrapped filming. The original post came from series star Alain Uy, who announced the news through an Instagram story on his account before deleting it.

Helstrom began shooting last fall in Vancouver under the working title Omens before it wrapped. Because filming began well before the coronavirus outbreak, it would appear the show was somewhat able to avoid being derailed by the pandemic.

As previously alluded to, other Marvel Studios TV productions like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki were forced to hold off on filming. Projects that are currently in pre-production like She-Hulk and Moon Knight are reportedly staying on track by moving forward remotely.

Originally announced by Hulu, Helstrom was set to premiere on the streaming service alongside a Ghost Rider series, which Hulu ultimately passed on. Helstrom would eventually become the only live-action, Marvel TV-produced show not to receive the axe following the consolidation of Marvel’s TV and film divisions. It isn't alone though, as the animated M.O.D.O.K. and Hit-Monkey shows are also still in the works.

Marvel had been relatively quiet regarding the series’ production status, even in the midst of coronavirus concerns. Yet it would appear everything is progressing as planned.

Helstrom centers on siblings Daimon and Satana Hellstrom, the children of a serial killer who must hunt the worst threats humanity can throw at them. While its connections to the Marvel Cinematic Universe aren’t clear, it’s said to be a standalone story within that continuity.

Tom Austen and Sydney Lemmon play the two main characters and are joined by Elizabeth Marvel, Robert Wisdom, June Carryl, Ariana Guerra, and the previously mentioned Alain Uy in supporting roles.

The show may be done filming, but that still doesn’t mean it may not feel the effects of recent events in some form or fashion. Like the now-wrapped WandaVision, there’s a chance post-production could be altered or delayed.

Marvel and Hulu haven’t given Helstrom a specific release date so far and, with the former leaning further into Disney+ content, this could indicate that there isn’t a rush to release the series to the public. This means it may be a while before the Hellstrom siblings make their way to TV. Helstrom is slated to premiere sometime in 2020.
