Golfing legend Tiger Woods was injured in a pretty serious traffic incident today, which reportedly only involved Woods and no other drivers or passengers. According to preliminary reports, it appears as if Woods flipped his car somehow while driving early Tuesday morning, and he was thereafter taken to the hospital to treat the injuries he suffered.

Tiger Woods' vehicle was reported to be very seriously damaged, to the point where the authorities had to bring out the jaws of life to extract the athlete. At this time, it's been reported that Woods suffered injuries specifically involving his legs, with more on that coming lower.

Below is a statement from the Los Angeles Country Sheriff's Department, which responded to the call.

On February 23, 2021, at approximately 7:12 a.m., LASD responded to a single vehicle roll-over traffic collision on the border of Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes. The vehicle was traveling northbound on Hawthorne Boulevard, at Blackhorse Road, when it crashed. The vehicle sustained major damage. The driver and sole occupant was identified as PGA golfer, Eldrick 'Tiger' Woods. Mr. Woods was extricated from the wreck with the 'jaws of life' by Los Angeles County firefighter and paramedics, then transported to a local hospital by ambulance for his injuries.

Offering an update to fans soon after the initial report went wide, Axios sports writer Kendall Baker shared an injuries-related statement via Twitter reportedly from Tiger Woods' agent Mark Steinberg. Here's what the statement said:

Tiger Woods was in a single-car accident this morning in California where he suffered multiple leg injuries. He is currently in surgery and we thank you for your privacy and support.

Without knowing the specifics behind the injuries that Tiger Woods suffered, it's hard to know what kind of a rehabilitation process the athlete will be looking at, and how long it will take him to heal up. One can only hope for the best in a situation like this while waiting for more facts to come in.

The cause of the car collision is being investigated, and it wasn't revealed whether or not Tiger Woods was under the influence during the time of the wreck. Woods has had a DUI arrest in his past, and he reportedly had a variety of intoxicants in his system at the time.

Tiger Woods was the recent subject of a two-part docu-series for HBO, simply named Tiger. The project aimed to draw the same kind of audience that ESPN earned with the Michael Jordan series The Last Dance, but didn't quite reach those highs with its behind-the-scenes stories and approach. Still, it was a win for HBO by way of viewers.

As well, Woods recently took part in joining Jim Nantz in the commentary booth for the final round of the charitable Genesis Invitational, which Woods and his foundation became the hosts for in 2017. Here's hoping he can jump right back into that kind of fun for a good cause sooner rather than later.
