Matt Frewer Rides A Horse On Supernatural

On The CW's Supernatural, the brothers Winchester have been facing a battle against the ultimate forces of evil, including the Horsemen of the Apocalypse. We've met a few, but it looks like one of the upcoming Horsemen will be a familiar face. Known from his work on Eureka, Syfy's Alice and as the incomparable Max Headroom, Matt Frewer has signed on to play Pestilence.

Executive producer Sera Gamble says of Frewer's role, "Our first brush with him in episode 520 seems relatively innocuous and then unfolds into something more substantial." It's also being reported at Sci Fi Pulse as Frewer "joining the cast" of Supernatural, while most of the Horsemen have been guest stars at best.

In fact, other than the Winchester brothers, the best anyone could hope for before Misha Collins' Castiel was a recurring role. Now that the show is going on beyond this climactic fifth season, I can't help but wonder if there are long-term plans to keep Frewer in the series somehow. His role on Eureka has been reduced considerably in recent years, and most of the demons and other forces we see on Supernatural are wearing human vessels.

I'm still trying to speculate what season six might look like. Wouldn't it be fun if this ultimate battle between Heaven and Hell absolutely wrecked the Earth, and season six was humanity trying to pull its collective shit together. I could imagine stray demons and angels on earth causing havoc for the boys to get involved with. Maybe Frewer's vessel would want to help out from guilt over what he did as Pestilence.
