Anakin Saves Artoo

Last week, R2-D2 was lost during a battle. This was stressful for both me and my 6 year old. We were both freaking out. When the show finished, Artoo was still with the enemy, and Anakin was planning his rescue. This week, in Duel of the Droids we get to see even more.

“In this episode, Anakin, Ahsoka and replacement droid R3-S6 (aka "Goldie") embark on a dual rescue/sabotage mission when they discover R2-D2 is being held at General Grievous's secret enemy listening post.”

To be honest, I don’t like Ahsoka. She seems like a cheap strategy to get girls to like Star Wars, when it is clearly not necessary – but, on the other hand maybe it is. I think I’m the only girl I know who adores the series.

But back to the story at hand. The creators of the show are excited by this storyline, because it really gives them a chance to give a back story to the back story. They give us a chance to see R2-D2 in action before he became Leia’s delivery man of choice, and to see the loyal, caring side of Anakin.

The real tragedy of Anakin is that he was a sincere caring person who ends up being a product of some terrible situations. Artoo’s capture is definitely a defining moment, because Anakin is unwilling to let him go, even though the Jedi Council is against him risking everything for an inanimate object. Their indifference is part of what pushes him to the Dark Side.

Yeah, clearly, I’ve thought this through – sue me.
