The wait is over! Less than five weeks until its premiere, Arrow has officially released the first trailer for Season 4, and in between catching up with the established characters and introducing new players, there’s plenty of explosive action for fans of the Emerald Archer’s hit show. Check it out!
Series star Stephen Amell debuted the new trailer on his Facebook page, and it immediately sets up the new status quo following the Arrow Season 3 finale. With The Arrow “dead,” Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak are now enjoying a quiet life together in good ol’ Suburbia away from all the violence and supervillains. Alas, it’s not meant to be. In the newly-named Star City (in honor of the presumed deceased Ray Palmer), Team Arrow - composed of Laurel Lance (a.k.a. Black Canary), Thea Queen (a.k.a. Speedy) and John Diggle (whose helmet is now more reminiscent of Judge Dredd) - has been keeping up the fight against criminal scum. However, with things getting worse, they need The Arrow back…or as he’ll now be known, the Green Arrow, complete with new costume designed by Felicity.

Plaguing the city this year is Neal McDonough’s Damien Darhk, Ra’s al Ghul’s former friend who now leads the organization H.I.V.E. Taking things to a new level of weird, Darhk has approached the Star City government to request that they let the city die. Quite a different approach from the main antagonists of the last three seasons who were trying to destroy it themselves. As he tells Anarky, he respects order and discipline, and evidently Star City doesn’t fit that his prerogative anymore.

You can watch the trailer to catch all the intense action, but let’s not forget some of the other players who will be dropping by, like Malcolm Merlyn (a.k.a. the new Ra’s al Ghul). Echo Kellum’s Curtis Holt (a.k.a. the future Mr. Terrific) is shown working alongside Felicity, and he doesn’t seem too happy that his job description didn’t include eluding dangerous men and ducking gunfire. We also get the briefest of glances at John Constantine, the trench-coat wearing occultist who will help Team Arrow in Episode 5 deal with the now-resurrected Sara Lance, who we see emerge from the Lazarus Pit.

Meanwhile back in the past, Oliver is back in the hood and appears to be taking the first step towards his vigilante career, and when it doesn’t go well, he is found by none other than Amanda Waller. This may be said every year Arrow comes back, but Season 4 looks to be its most intense batch of episodes yet. Let’s hope Oliver is up to the challenge in his new identity.

Arrow Season 4 will premiere on Wednesday, October 7 in its normal timeslot on The CW.
