CSI: Miami's Omar Benson Miller may have found his next steady TV job, assuming things go well for the pilot Dwayne Johnson, Mark Wahlberg and Steven Levinson are developing for HBO, in which Miller will co-star. We learned last week that Pain & Gain due Johnson and Wahlberg were teaming up to executive produce a half-hour dramedy for HBO, which would be written by Steve Levinson. Today we've learned that Miller is set to co-star opposite The Rock in the project.
The pilot is set in Miami and centers on retired and active athletes living in the Florida city. Deadline says Miller will play Charles, an affable former pro-athlete who is searching for his next career. Given the typically early retirement of athletes - depending on the sport, of course - a story that focuses on former athletes trying to figure out what to do next with their lives could definitely work. Factor in the appeal of Dwayne Johnson and the success of Mark Wahlberg as an executive producer for HBO shows (Entourage, In Treatment, Boardwalk Empire), and things are looking pretty good for this one. Now we can add Miller to the growing list of reasons to hope things work out for this yet-to-be-titled project. Oh, and did we mention that Friday Night Lights' Peter Berg is directing the pilot? Yeah, it has that going for it too.
In addition to playing Walter Simmons on CSI: Miami, Miller's credits include 8 Mile, The Express and Gary Fleder's upcoming thriller Home Front, starring Jason Satham and James Franco.
