Comic-Con: Whedon Has Plans For Ripper

‘Buffy’ fans will be delighted to know that there’s a good chance the long-discussed made-for-TV movie, Ripper is actually going to happen. Joss Whedon was at Comic-Con this weekend and was kind enough to give fans a bit of information about his upcoming projects, which could include Ripper as well as another season of the ‘Buffy’ Comic.

Tvsquad.com reported that Whedon announced that he is planning to make Ripper with the BBC. Anthony Stewart Head, who played Giles in the ‘Buffy’ series is already on board. The movie being a BBC production means that chances are, U.K. ‘Buffy’ fans will get to see the movie well before it makes its way to some cable channel in the U.S.

The project was originally set to focus on Rupert Giles in his early years, before he became Buffy’s watcher. We learned in a couple of episodes throughout the ‘Buffy’ series that before Giles was a stuffy librarian, he dabbled a bit in dark magic and adopted the nickname, Ripper. Whether or not the premise of the 90-minute movie will focus on that was not stated.

TVSquad.com also announced that Whedon is already working on Season 9 of the ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ comic book series. He plans to bring Oz back at some point but wouldn’t give any additional details about that.
