Crash Songwriter Bird York Writing TV Mob Drama

In the grand scheme of things, there’s really not as many mob dramas out there as we might think, but because so many of them, from The Godfather to The Sopranos to The Departed, have been done so well, it seems like Hollywood has already covered every square inch of the possible story. While Boardwalk Empire is firing rounds of ammunition into that theory every Sunday night on HBO, another, more outside the box concept is winding its way through Fox.

According to Deadline, former Oscar nominee Bird York is penning a new mob pilot for Fox entitled In Deep. You may remember the songstress struck gold five years ago with a song she wrote for Crash. It was similarly titled "In The Deep."

The basic plot of the series will follow an FBI Informant gathering secrets about the Chicago Mafia through conversations with the mobster girlfriends and wives. Scorsese gave us a little bit of the Mafia women in Goodfellas to great success. If this new show can achieve anywhere near the same results, look for it to make the Fall line-up next year.
