While American fans are busy getting excited about the return of Downton Abbey, PBS distribution is busy getting the Series 3 Blu-ray release together. Series 3 has already aired overseas and will premiere in the U.S. on January 6. The Blu-ray and DVD release will follow just a few weeks later, hitting the market on January 29, 2013.

Most of the familiar faces are returning for Downton Abbey’s third round at bat. Additionally, the season features Shirley MacLaine, who plays the Countess of Grantham, Cora’s, mother. The world is changing after WWI, and that leaves plenty of opportunity for new drama and a wide variety of prospects for the characters in the PBS show. The financial problems great estates are facing will become more prominent, and the unfortunate marriage between Anna and the jailed Bates will be explored. There’s a lot of drama set to go down, and if you want a sneak peek, check out a preview.

The three-disc set will be available for purchase just three weeks before the season finale will air on PBS. Mums the word on special features, but having owned Downton Abbey sets in the past, it’s likely the extras won’t be anything special, although they may provide a bit of a behind-the-scenes look. Blu-ray copies will run for $54.99 and DVD sets will run a little more cheaply at $49.99. You can check out the cover art, below.

Downton Abbey returns to PBS on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at 9 p.m. ET.
