Fox Orders More Raising Hope

Fox’s Raising Hope just might be the funniest of the new comedies airing this fall, which is why I take great pleasure in reporting that the network has picked the show up for a full first season.

A Fox show that isn’t an edgy procedural, Glee or American Idol isn’t being cancelled?! Sarcasm aside, this is great news.

“I’m really happy for our incredibly talented cast and very hard-working crew. They have done an amazing job and deserve this,” said Greg Garcia, Raising Hope creator and executive producer. “Me? I was looking forward so some time off, but I guess that’s not going to happen.”

Greg Garcia also created My Name Is Earl, which similar to Raising Hope embraced lower-class American humor. This series follows a guy who’s going nowhere in his life and then finds out a convicted felon he had a one-night (van-ride)-stand with had his baby. After she’s executed, he becomes the proud owner of a baby girl whom he’s determined to raise right. Much like Earl, the low-class jokes are spread throughout but there’s a really sweet layer of heart underneath it all (if you can get past things like a baby getting lost in a garage full of junk or a kid sticking his head through a hole in the floor of a car while the car’s driving.)

Raising Hope airs Tuesdays at 9:00-9:30 PM ET/PT on Fox.
