When HBO’s Game of Thrones returns to San Diego for Comic-Con 2014, fans wouldn’t be entirely out of line for assuming the epic fantasy would feature a panel complete with live dragons, or that it would take place on top of a wall hundreds of feet tall. While the reality behind the series’ SDCC appearance may not quite so gargantuan, it will still bring together a huge chunk of one of TV’s largest ensemble casts, and it will all be moderated by comedian and late night talk show
The Game of Thrones panel will take place on Friday, July 25, inside of Hall H, presumably the only building large enough to fit this cast and the enormous, bloodthirsty fanbase. Bestselling author George R.R. Martin will be on hand, of course, as will executive producers and showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. As for the cast members, Con attendees will get to see and hear from Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), Rory McCann (The Hound), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), Kit Harrington (Jon Snow), Rose Leslie (Ygritte), Pedro Pascal (Oberyn Martel), Natalie Dormer (Margaery Tyrell) and John Bradley (Samwell Tarly). (Still less people than the series’ 19 Emmy nominations.) It’ll be excellent to see Ferguson bouncing off of this massive squad; I don’t see why it isn’t mandatory for comedians to be moderators at panels like these.
Notable absences are Peter Dinklage, Emilia Clarke and Lena Headey, but they’re all busy filming other things. Plus, there’s probably some kind of a contractual limit as far as how many of these actors can appear together at the same time without someone pulling a sword out. I mean, at least Jon Snow will be there right, he asked smirkingly.
Fans of the Game of Thrones novels would be wise to spend some time Thursday afternoon at the Indigo Room inside the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel, as author George R.R. Martin will be taking part in a conversation with publisher William Christensen. Among other topics, they’ll be talking about Game of Thrones and Martin’s new comic series In the House of the Worm.
According to Deadline, HBO will also be hauling over most of the True Blood cast for their Saturday afternoon panel, including stars Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer. Get your fangs filed and polished.
Are any of you going to Comic-Con this year? Does this sound like a Lannister-worthy experience?
