All good things must eventually come to an end. The hit CBS legal drama The Good Wife has entertained audiences since 2009, and has seen many characters come and go during its run. While the show will soon end its run with the series finale on CBS in a few weeks, it now seems that the network may send the show off with just the right amount of pomp and circumstance. We’ve just learned that The Good Wife finale may bring back Josh Charles’ deceased character William Gardner for a potential guest appearance in a flashback sequence.
A new report from TVLine seems to indicate that the upcoming finale of The Good Wife may enlist the acting talents of a familiar face to send the series off properly. These rumors seem to indicate that the fan-favorite character will appear opposite series star Julianne Margulies in a flashback sequence. It’s an incredibly enticing bit of potential fan service for long-time members of the audience to enjoy, so let’s hope that these rumors turn out to be true in the long run.
As fans of The Good Wife already know, it’s been quite some time since they’ve seen Josh Charles’ William Gardner. In a move that shocked audiences, the CBS series killed off his character during the events of the Season 5 episode "Dramatics," during which the character succumbed to a gunshot wound sustained towards the end of the episode. His character has appeared in flashbacks before, and we can likely expect his reappearance to carry some serious emotional weight when he finally arrives.
Of course, like all rumors, we must endeavor to take it with a grain of salt. Josh Charles’ appearance on the upcoming finale of The Good Wife has not officially received confirmation, but it would make a great deal of sense for the series. It also raises other questions about more potential characters that could return, such as Archie Panjabi’s Kalinda Sharma – who departed the series last year amid major rumors that she and Julianne Margulies did not get along behind the scenes of the show. With the show coming to an end, pretty much any and all possible dramatic devices seem to be on the table waiting to be used for the finale.
We will keep you up to date regarding any relevant details concerning Josh Charles’ potential return to The Good Wife as they become available to us. Be sure to catch the series finale of the beloved legal drama when it airs on May 8 on CBS.
