Fox is going country for New Years Eve this year and American Idol fans may be pleased to know that Lauren Alaina is among the stars of what the network has titled American Country New Year’s Eve Live. She’ll be joined by fellow country singer Rodney Atkins for the event.

TVLine got the exclusive on the story, stating that the Idol runner-up and Atkins would be starring in Fox’s New Year’s Even special, which is set to air live at 11:00 p.m. ET (December 31st). Alaina and Atkins will be on hand as a performer as Fox counts down to midnight and helps ring in 2012.

It makes sense that Fox might want to distinguish itself from the other New Years Eve specials by aiming for a specific audience, and country has a big one of those. American Country New Year’s Eve Live will feature the celebrations in Las Vegas and New York City’s Times Square. According to TVLine, Fox will be announcing other performers soon. Any chance Alaina’s fellow Idol contestant Scotty McCreery will join the special? He’s certainly country enough for it. It'll certainly be interesting to see which other country stars will be featured on the special.
