Loretta Devine Is Added To The Client List

The cast of Lifetime’s upcoming series The Client List just got better, or if you’re not averse to lame puns, a bit more divine. Loretta Devine is set to play a role in Lifetime series that sounds like it could be quite a bit more scandalous than what we’ve seen from her in recent parts.

The Client List is based on a Lifetime movie from 2010, which starred Jennifer Love Hewitt and Cybill Shepherd and followed a Texas housewife who ends up running a massage parlor that’s secretly a prostitution service. The series will presumably continue the story with Hewitt reprising her role as Riley and Shepherd once again, playing her mother. According to Deadline, Loretta Devine is set to join the cast as a series regular, playing the owner of the massage parlor.

Devine is one of the reasons I can’t turn off Waiting to Exhale whenever I come across the film on TV, which seems like quite a bit these days thanks to a recent run on Starz. More recently, she’s played the recurring part of Adele Webber in Grey’s Anatomy. She also had a regular role in the short-lived ABC Family comedy State of Georgia. Hopefully things work out better for The Client List.

Kelly put her life-long love of movies, TV and books to greater use when she joined CinemaBlend as a freelance TV news writer in 2006, and went on to serve as the site’s TV Editor before joining the staff full-time in 2011 and moving over to other roles at the site. At present, she’s an Assistant Managing Editor who spends much of her time brainstorming and editing features, analyzing site data, working with writers and editors on content planning and the workflow, and (of course) continuing to obsess over the best movies and TV shows (those that already exist, and the many on the way). She graduated from SUNY Cortland with BA in Communication Studies and a minor in Cinema Studies. When she isn't working, she's probably thinking about work, or reading (or listening to a book), and making sure her cats are living their absolute best feline lives.
