NBC Cancels Chopping Block Effective Immediately

When you tune in to Chopping Block next week to see some more derivative food competition shenanigans you’ll be surprised to find chef Marco Pierre White nowhere to be found. NBC has axed the show after just 3 episodes. Starting next week the network will air repeats of Law & Order: Criminal Intent in that timeslot.

According to The Hollywood Reporter NBC may still offer the already filmed episodes at some point. I’m going to offer a bit of conjecture and say anyone wanting to watch them will probably be able to look to Hulu for the content.

Chopping Block was such a mediocre show I couldn’t believe NBC took a chance. Over on sister station Bravo NBC Universal has had great success with Top Chef, and you’d think the opportunity for a network primetime slot would go to that team. But the fight to compete with Gordon Ramsey was too great a challenge. The problems with the show had little to do with Chef White, but instead with the formula. It all felt forced, boring, and like we’d seen it already on 7 other shows.
