Casting for the CW's The Selection pilot seems to be aiming for less familiar faces this time around, with the exception of Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Anthony Head, who recently joined the project. The latest bit of casting puts another British actor into the adaptation. U.K. actress Sarah Winter has signed on for the drama pilot, which is based on a novel by Kiera Cass.
The Selection comes from Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain and is set 300 years in the future. The story follows a working-class woman named America, who's among the girls selected to compete for a chance to marry the handsome prince Maxon. Israeli actress Yael Grobglas was selected to play the lead character, taking over for Amiee Teegarden, who played the part in the original pilot. Michael Malarkey replaced Ethan Peck as the prince, and we recently learned that Anthony Head was set to play the role of the King. TVLine now reports that British actress Sarah Winter has been cast to play Ashley Brovillette, one of the other women selected to compete along with America. She's described as naive and "thrilled" to be among the Selection participants, which sounds like a major contrast from the story's lead.
Based on her credits, it looks like Winter is a newcomer to U.S. film and television, however Doctor Who fans on both sides of the pond will get to see her soon enough, as she's set to play the role of Delia Derbyshire in the anticipated TV movie An Adventure in Space and Time, which will re-tell the creation of Doctor Who back in the 60s.
