Ryan Murphy’s upcoming series American Crime Story has been coming together for quite some time. A lot of the major players have already signed on for the drama, which is subtitled The People V. O.J. Simpson, and today we learned that the show will include a 90s version of Kardashian mom Kris Jenner. Playing the role will be none other than Selma Blair.
It’ll be weird to see a fictionalized version of the famous reality star on TV, but there’s a good reason for Kris Jenner to be a part of American Crime Story: The People V. O.J. Simpson. Kris Jenner was married to her first husband, Robert Kardashian between 1978 and 1991. During that time, they had four children together, the famous Kardashians: Kourtney, Kim, Khloe and Rob. By the time O.J. Simpson was charged with the murder of his former wife Nicole Brown Simpson, Kris had already divorced Kardashian and gotten married again, this time to Bruce Jenner. But since Kris Jenner was a friend of Nicole Brown Simpson and shares children with O.J.’s famous friend and lawyer, there is clearly a reason to have the character on the show.
Deadline’s report does not indicate how big Selma Blair’s role will be, but since the story will focus on the lawyers embroiled in the O.J. Simpson trial, it’s not likely to be a leading role. The upcoming drama will be heavily focused on the courtroom, and the antics that led to the defense team introducing information that inspired reasonable doubt in the jury.
Blair joins a long list of names already attached to American Crime Story. Cuba Gooding Jr. is signed on to play O.J. Simpson, and Sarah Paulson has signed on to play famous prosecutor Marcia Clark. Friends actor David Schwimmer has already joined the series, signing on for the role of Robert Kardashian. In more recent weeks, Connie Britton has been announced as Faye Resnick, John Travolta has been listed as Robert Shapiro, and Courtney B. Vance has been signed on as Johnnie Cochran. In short, a long list of big names have joined the drama, which is expected to hit the schedule in the fall of 2015.
Honestly, Blair is a pretty spot-on fit for 1990s Kris Jenner. The actress hasn’t taken a ton of roles since her ill-fated gig on FX’s Anger Management ended, but she'll hopefully be a good fit for the network’s upcoming show. Plus, she obviously has experience with FX, and even if that experience didn’t end well, it reportedly had more to do with cast issues than the network. We’ll let you know if any other big names sign on to the drama.
