Spongebob Renewed For 9th Season

It’s been more than ten years since Spongebob Squarepants premiered, and in that time, the once low profile Nickelodeon cartoon has become a bit of a phenomenon. Passed down by way of sibling word of mouth and hands-on parenting circles, the program still dominates the 2-10 demographic, humorous considering, by definition, no one who counts in that group was alive when the show first came on air. Now the historic run is set to continue, at least for another few years.

According to Deadline, Spongebob SquarePants has been given a new 26 episode order for its upcoming ninth season which will air in 2012. Lately, the show has been broadcasting specials. The most recent original, Mystery with a Twistery attracted some 6.6 million viewers. The next, Legends Of Bikini Bottom will premiere January 28th, on Nickelodeon.

Current day to day head on the show Paul Tibbitt said, “The trick is to try to keep the episodes funny and simple and press from there.” Let’s hope continued quality is as easy as he makes it sound.
