It seems like an eternity since we last got to watch the ladies of American Horror Story: Coven wreak havoc on each other and the outside world. But when the show returns on Wednesday, January 8, it will feature the most exciting witch of them all. No, we don’t mean the new supreme (though she may well get outed before the end of the episode); we’re talking about the White Witch herself, Stevie Nicks. FX released a couple behind the scenes shots of Nicks today, standing with actress Lily Rabe, whose character Misty Day is positively obsessed with the legendary songstress. Almost as obsessed as show co-creator Ryan Murphy.
Via Dread Central, the two photos are nearly the same thing — just with varying intensity of smiles — but they both get me equally excited, as her inclusion on the show is one of the strangest fourth wall-breaking plotlines to show up on TV in recent memory. Here’s the second picture, just to get you through the day.
Nicks will of course play herself, and it seems like Fiona will use her to somehow figure out who the next Supreme of the Coven is. How she’s going to do this, we have no idea. I hope it involves a musical performance of “Dreams” that ends in Josh Hamilton’s Hank getting assailed with bullets all over again. I can't wait to see how they play Misty’s reaction; I'll mute the TV just in case she pierces eardrums with her excited screams.
But Madison will probably have something harsh to say when it comes to sussing out the next Supreme, as her intentions are to kill anyone suspected of taking the pointy-hatted throne. I didn't think that’s how it has worked in the past, but I'm sure they'll find some way to shoehorn in an explanation about how Supremes are identified.
Elsewhere in the episode, the plot behind Hank’s attempted murder of Marie Laveau is uncovered, and the witches and voodoo priestesses will team up to destroy the witch hunters plaguing their existence. I am all for any plot line that has more Jessica Lange and Angela Bassett in the same scene: stick them in a DMV for all I care.
Check out the promo for “The Magical Delights of Stevie Nicks” below, and remember that witches only love you when they're witching.
Nick is a Cajun Country native, and is often asked why he doesn't sound like that's the case. His love for his wife and daughters is almost equaled by his love of gasp-for-breath laughter and gasp-for-breath horror. A lifetime spent in the vicinity of a television screen led to his current dream job, as well as his knowledge of too many TV themes and ad jingles.
