Sunday Night Drama Queen: AMC's Mini-Series Broken Trail (Part 1)

Part 1 of AMC’s new mini-series ‘Broken Trail’ aired Sunday night. Being a girl who generally prefers “chick-flicks”, the number of westerns I’m willing to sit through is extremely limited, however my father urged me to watch the first part under the agreement that if I didn’t like it, I didn’t have to tune in Monday night for part 2. I’ll say with complete honestly that after sitting through part 1, I fully plan to see how the story concludes when part 2 airs on Monday Night.

‘Broken Trail’ is about a man named Print Ritter, played by Robert Duvall. Ritter wants a ranch of his own and plans to drive a herd of horses from Oregon to Wyoming to make the money. He convinces his estranged nephew to come with him and they head off on a real cowboy journey. Shortly into the trip they cross paths with a trafficker who’s leading five innocent Chinese girls to a life of prostitution. Ritter and his crew essentially end up rescuing the girls and taking them with them on their journey.

What’s in it for guys? A bunch of gun-wielding men of the land riding around on horses, being heroes. What’s in it for girls? A bunch of gun-wielding but gentlemanly cowboys protecting the innocence of young, desperate Chinese girls. The story is fairly simple, the acting is on par and it's got a great summer feel to it. I highly recommend it to anyone who needs a break from bad reality shows and reruns.

If you’re interested in checking it out, they’ll be rerunning part one on Monday night at 6:00 pm on AMC. Immediately following Part One will be part two at 8:00 pm. The full miniseries will air again on July 6th at 8 PM on AMC.
