Survivor Sponsor Reneges

Once-loyal (and once-booming) car maker GM announced Wednesday that it has decided to terminate its sponsorship of the CBS hit 'Survivor.' Denying any relation to the recent reveal of the new racially themed season, Ryndee Carney, a GM spokeswoman, said changing marketing strategies have prompted the decision.

GM, currently in a slump, has sponsored the show since its initial premiere in 2000. Carney claimed GM's decision to end its 'Survivor' sponsorship came before the show's controversial announcement that it would be dividing its teams based on race in the upcoming season. She explained the company's desire to directly incorporate its vehicles into programs, allowing them to become characters themselves. (What about a "Who would steal the car first?" competition in honor of the new race theme?)

Perhaps GM's move, a testament to the customary backstabbing on the show, is simply, in the penetratingly nonsensical words of 'Survivor' host Jeff Probst, a (coincidentally timed) social experiment.
