TV Recap: Big Brother - Week 9 Eviction - (UPDATED WITH HOH)

While the rest of America was probably watching Idol Gives Back, I actually took time out from the spirit of giving to watch the Big Brother houseguests eat their way through another week. Seriously, it’s like a perpetual state of PMS in the BB house nowadays. Last week everyone was crying. This week, it seemed like the editors couldn’t find a bit of footage of the houseguests NOT stuffing their faces.

In all fairness, I don’t think anyone was on slop this week, which could explain their ravenous appetites. On tonight’s live show, we got to see footage of James making a last effort to stay in the house. It didn’t work as he was sent packing unanimously but I do think he was successful in poisoning the house against Natalie.

Natalie might read the bible daily but it’s not stopping her from fibbing her way through the game. After James messes with her by asking her why she stopped working out since Matty left, Natalie sat and tanned with Sharon. The two discussed the possibility of the guys ganging up on the girls. Annoyed that he was laughing at James’ jokes, Natalie tossed out a few threats in Adam’s direction. She then tells Sharon under her breath that she would be going after Adam if she gets HoH. Later Natalie tells Adam that Sharon said she was targeting him. The way she stared down Adam as she lied to his face, I started to consider the possibility that Natalie actually believes what she’s saying.

As I said earlier, James was evicted unanimously but as always, they tried to make it look like there was a chance the mohawked kid would stay by showing James trying to work out a deal with Ryan and Sheila. For a little while, he seemed to have them convinced that if they kept him, he could help them get rid of Natalie. The tables turned and then turned back at some point before tonight’s live show. Sharon’s still in the house and it’s just as well. She might be dull when it comes to gameplay but she does appear to be a genuinely good person. Her family seems to think so as they were featured in the episode. Her military father, mom and siblings got some time to talk about how Sharon’s a fighter and a loyal friend. Perhaps that’s why she’s always willing to be on the block week after week. That way she doesn’t have to vote for someone to go. And as a strategy, it’s actually pretty brilliant (but obviously risky) because she’s making no enemies. If she goes to the final two, it seems probable that she’ll win no matter who she’s up against.

Unlike Chelsia, James didn’t display any bitterness when he left the house. Though he did tell Julie that he hates Ryan and Natalie and “everything they stand for.” What do they stand for? Maybe I’m not spending enough (or any, really) time watching the live feeds but from what I’ve seen, Ryan loves to eat and Natalie loves the bible and Matty. Is there anything I’m missing here?

Tonight’s Head of Household competition is an endurance comp. Ryan, Sharon, Natalie and Shiela each stood inside individual glass boxes. The boxes were raised up and the houseguests have to wedge themselves inside the boxes with nothing but a chain (again) to hold on to. The person who manages to stay in their box the longest wins this week’s Head of Household. When the episode ended, Ryan and Sharon both looked pretty uncomfortable where as Natalie appeared completely steady and Sheila wasn’t doing that bad either. Read below if you want to know what happened after the episode went off the air.

Update:

9:55 p.m. EST: Ryan, Natalie and Sheila are still in their boxes. Sharon is out. Pictures below.

10:52 p.m. EST: Ryan, Nat and Sheila are all still in their boxes.

11:43 p.m. EST: Adam and Sharon went inside for a minute. While they were gone, Natalie, Ryan and Sheila scrambled to make a deal. If they let Sheila win the HoH, she agrees not to put them up. The talk about ways to make it not look obvious that a deal was made. It looks very likely that Ryan and Natalie are going to both throw the competition.

11:47 p.m. EST: Ryan is down. Sharon is telling Natalie to give the comp to Sheila so that she can have a letter and pictures of home. Natalie is over-acting and pretending to be torn about the whole thing.

12:00 a.m. EST: After whining a lot about being undecided and unsure if she should give up, Natalie finally decided that she's a giver and dropped. Sheila is the new Head of Household.
