TV Recap: My Boys - The Boyfriend Hat

Everyone knows it’s a difficult transition from friend to boyfriend, right? Well, maybe Bobby is just finding out but at least he has Andy there for guidance. Where else would he learn that when your girlfriend is questioning the authenticity of her promotion you should just nod and say uh-huh?

Yup, PJ has just been promoted to full on columnist. She’s no longer relegated to the Cubs and, naturally, she can’t wait to share her good fortune with her friends. Of course, the douchiness that is Mike tells her she only got the promotion because she’s a hot chic who knows about sports. She’s a novelty and no matter what anyone says, when a friend makes a comment like that, it’s difficult to ignore. At least she has Bobby to reassure her of the fact that she actually earned this spot. Or she did have him. Since they started dating she hasn’t been listening to him quite as much as before. Duh. Did his ex-fiancé not teach him anything?

Instead of going to Bobby, who is both her friend and her colleague, PJ turns to Stephanie and her mentor. Stephanie tells her it is fine to use your looks to help her get ahead and just when PJ was starting to believe that, her mentor at the Times let her know that if the paper wanted to hire the hot girl, they would have gone with some one else. So much for that. It may be harsh but at least now PJ knows her integrity is in tact. Too bad Mike and Kenny can’t say the same thing.

Brendan has been working really hard to try and get his club up and running and part of that is conducting research. This must be the worst part of the job: He has to go to all the hot spots around Chicago and figure out what will work for him. I know, tough job. Kenny tags along one night and discovers he loves douche clubs. Until, that is, he returns with Mike and without Brendan. I guess the club people only love Kenny if he’s on Brendan’s arm. I know. It’s sad but seriously, how could Kenny think any differently. He and Mike regale the new place and crown Crowley’s the best bar in Chicago. Yeah. That lasts for all of two minutes because then Brendan comes in and invites them back to the douche bar and they jump off their seats. Poor boys.

Speaking of Brendan’s new job: what a little grown up he is. The place finally has a name, John’s, and the whole thing is really coming together. I thought after his whole lame debacle last season he would be a goner but he pulled through. And he still has his “I’m not a working stiff” scruff. Awesome. Oh, and don’t worry about Bobby and PJ. She wants the truth from him and he’s ready to give it, as long as it doesn’t hurt her feelings. Oh, so true, so true.
