Three More Comedy Pilots For ABC Including Claudia Lonow Project And Another British Remake

Three more comedy pilots have the go-ahead at ABC; the network has given the greenlight to How to Live With Your Parents for the Rest of Your Life from Claudia Lonow, a buddy comedy that so far remains nameless, and Only Fools and Horses, which is a remake of a British series that involves mostly fools and few, if any, horses.

Deadline reported the greenlight for the three comedy projects. Lonow’s project is apparently following in the footsteps of the hit How I Met Your Mother in terms of the format; it will be a multi-camera comedy that is filmed without an audience. The plot surrounds a newly divorced mom who has to move back in with her parents – a version of Lonow’s own life. Mom and Dad are apparently quite the entertaining duo, and their eccentric ways make life interesting for their daughter. If this one makes it past the pilot to a series, we’ll have to find a way to shorten that title.

Up next is the buddy comedy without a name. The project comes from writer Adam Stzykiel, best known for features like Due Date and Made of Honor, and follows friends in their mid-20s who move 2000 miles away. One of the friends attempts to maintain a long-distance relationship, and that’s about all we have for plot details so far. The description promises a “raw, hilarious” look at relationships of people in their mid-20s. It doesn’t sound like anything we haven’t seen before in my opinion.

The third thumbs-up went to Only Fools and Horses, a story about two brothers who think they’re on the verge of striking it rich even as they struggle to make ends meet by selling junk. The project is based on popular a British sitcom – yes another one. Just a few days ago ABC picked up another adaptation of a British series, White Van Man. CBS also recently greenlighted Elementary, which sounds an awful lot like the British series Sherlock. What would American television do without the Brits to give them ideas?
