Tuesday Night Drama Queen: Rescue Me

‘Rescue Me’ picked up where it left off last week and continues in what is shaping up to be a fantastic season. While Johnny heals from the beating he took from Tommy after his affair with Janet was discovered, Garrity sweats it out, wondering if Tommy’s on to him and Maggie. Probie continues to consider transferring to a different precinct as a means of escaping his rookie status. Lou continues on his downward spiral of drinking and late-night street wandering.

Each episode of ‘Rescue Me’ seems to have at least one hilarious laugh-out-loud scene. Tonight’s would have to be the brief scene in which Tommy and Mrs. Turbody get it on (who didn’t see that coming?). He performs with the stamina of a 15 year old and then, sitting pantless on her couch, asks for a sandwich. This is going to be an interesting relationship.

Other notable moments –

Franco continues to sleep with the older woman. She gives him an expensive watch as a present and he gives it back after finding out how much it was worth. It’s clear he’s hesitant to commit to anything with this woman and it’s also clear that she’s trying to establish some sort of arrangement with him. What that is has yet to be revealed as she appears to be very casual about things but there’s definitely something more going on there.

Probie attempts to fill out his transfer application and has to call his mom to help him figure out how old he is. If he wasn’t so sweet, I’d make fun of him for his poor math skills but I just can’t do it. He doesn’t submit the application. He gets as far as the chiefs door then changes his mind, perhaps considering some way to accept his situation. He seems to find his solution in the book “The Tao of Pooh”. Lou catches him reading it and gives him a hard time over it, calling Pooh a half-retarded bear that isn’t even real. Probie responds by explaining that Pooh is a simple bear, like an uncarved block of wood and he finds happiness in the simplest of things (his friends, honey, napping, etc) and that he can relate to that. Lou continues to dig at him, demanding Probie hand over the book. The argument leads to a blow up between the two and Tommy intervenes. Tommy decides that this is a good time to call Lou out on his drinking. Lou in return calls Tommy a hypocrite and storms out. When we see Lou next, he’s in a bookstore shoplifting “The Tao of Pooh”. For some reason this moment made me smile.

Garrity attempts to avoid Tommy, afraid that Tommy knows about him and Maggie. Tommy goes out of his way to make Garrity uncomfortable, mainly for sport. He knows about Garrity and Maggie and he’s probably upset about it but he’s definitely enjoying watching Garrity squirm. An amusing Garrity moment, unrelated to the Maggie drama – When the guys get called to an accident involving a horse and buggy in the park, Garrity tracks down the horse that went missing and rides it back to the scene. He goes on to tell a story about a pony he rode as a kid at camp and how the pony died. He then smacks the horse’s rear and it gallops off only to get hit by a bus. Nice one, Garrity.

The shocker (ok, not really) at the end involves Probie and his friend sitting on the couch. Probie leans back and then tips his head onto his friend’s shoulder. His friend casually leans back and tips his head onto Probie’s. The episode ends with the two of them relaxing against one another in a not-just-as-friends sort of way. Is it safe to assume that this is the official confirmation that adorable Mike “Probie” Silletti is in fact, gay?
