Recently, President Barack Obama told Bill Simmons in an interview that he watches Game of Thrones but has trouble remembering the names of all of the characters. This didn’t sit well with brand new late night host Stephen Colbert, who took the President to task for his lack of pop culture skills. You can check out the amusing clip, below.

The whole tone of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert was primed for a moment like this. The late night host is standing onstage, addressing the audience and prepping us for what we know is about to be really “disturbing” news. He states our President has an “inability to keep track” of problems between poor leaders in unstable regions. But he’s not talking about conflict in Syria. He’s talking about conflict in George R.R. Martin’s Westeros.

It’s the perfect setup for a pretty darn funny bit, and Colbert doesn’t stop there, giving the President shit for telling Simmons that his favorite character was probably “the dwarf,” telling Obama he’s asleep at the wheel when it comes to geopolitical conflict. Just so you’re up to date on why this is so damn funny, here’s exactly what Obama had to say to GQ.
My favorite character is probably… the dwarf. What’s his name?

I get that President Obama has a real job and all. He probably has a lot of foreign minister and high-end official names he has to learn to pronounce, like Bashar al-Assad, the President of Syria (we’re not even going to attempt to try to spell the current or former presidents of Iran). He apparently can’t be spending time committing names like Tyrion Lannister and Areo Hotah to memory. But c’mon. If you’re going to watch a show as epic as Game of Thrones, you at least need to invest enough to remember the names of the likes of Cersei, Dany and Tyrion, even if people like Doran Martell and Littlefinger escape you. After all, as Colbert notes, Barack Obama should be particularly sensitive to unique and interesting names.
Nobody in all of Games of Thrones has a stranger name than Barack Obama.

Colbert’s taken a political bent quite often since he took over CBS’ The Late Show this fall, but this sketch is such a clever way to tie in politics with pop culture, and Game of Thrones fans everywhere should enjoy the heck out of this clip. I shouldn’t even need to say this, but if you haven’t actually watched the video yet, now’s a great time for that.

You can catch new episodes of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET, only on CBS. We bet if Barack Obama shows up on the series, he’ll have a few more GOT names memorized by that point.
