Capcom Making Mega Man 9?Author: Pete Haas

Remember the days when you knew how many Mega Man games there were? Back before Capcom churned out about five different spin-off series? Well, it seems Capcom is working on a new entry in the long-abandoned Classic series.
The Classic Mega Man games were side-scrollers where Mega Man, the badly named robo-boy with an arm cannon, would fight eight mini-bosses ("Robot Masters") and then face the mad scientist Dr. Wily. The Classification Board and Classification Review Board, essentially the ESRB of Australia, recently gave a "General" rating to Mega Man 9, a multi-platform game by Capcom listed on the organization's website. No mention of what which "multiple platforms" the game would be featured on, but I assume this would be a Playstation Network/X-Box Live Arcade/Wii Virtual Console project if they intend to keep the game true to the classic series' 2D, side-scrolling roots. No release date is included in the listing, either. It's been about ten years since Mega Man 8 was released for Sega Saturn and Playstation One. Hopefully they've spent the time thinking of new Robot Masters - I mean, one of the bosses from MM8 was "Clown Man," for Chrissake. I guess that's part of the series' weird charm, though. |
