Dev Dissects Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning's Cinematics

Ever wondered how some cinematics come together for some games? There are probably some games that interest you more than others, but the general concept of creating in-engine cinematics is thoroughly explored for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning in a new behind-the-scenes video with Big Huge Games’ Cinematic Director, Marty Stoltz.

The six minute video features a detailed exposition of the process teams will go through to bring a cinematic to life in-engine. It’s also interesting because Stoltz mentions that with movies the creators get to gauge a reaction from the audience in the theaters, where-as game developers don’t really get to do the same. However, that’s not entirely true…there’s always YouTube. Devs would just have to try to avoid the “Trololol” comments and reactions.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning doesn’t look like a bad game. I’m curious how well it will do on the market, given that most games this gen that have been gauged as “successful” are basically sequels, reboots and rehashes.

I at least have to give props to EA for backing a triple-A, new IP in this kind of climate. Most publishers seem to be playing it safe and cashing in wherever they can for as little as possible.

You can look for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning to launch February 7th for the Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2012. Need more info or plan to pre-order? Feel free to hit up the Official Website.
