Falling Skies Game Hits Consoles, PC This Fall
Fans of the Sci-Fi television show Falling Skies will finally get to try their own hand at surviving the alien apocalypse as Little Orbit announces the impending invasion of a video game version of the TNT series. Expect the tactical SRPG to hit the Wii U, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Steam sometime this fall.
I haven’t gotten around to watching Falling Skies just yet, but I think that my years of experience in the genre have provided me with a pretty good idea of what to expect: Aliens arrive, poop hits the fan and the last remnants of humanity are left to crawl across the rubble and try to build a new life for themselves while fighting off the alien stragglers. It’s a story we’ve heard a million times, but this Spielberg-produced program must be getting something right to still be alive and kicking in this age of dynamite television.
According to publisher Little Orbit, the survival of the human race is at stake in the upcoming game, just like in the television show.
“Players will dive into a world gone wrong and command a squad of recently-rescued survivors who have been recruited into the human resistance fighting to save the planet,” reads the press release. “The team will engage in covert tactical operations against the Espheni, fighting to survive against alien invaders while also rescuing and recruiting survivors to join the 2nd Mass.”
While the Falling Skies game is set to feature fan-favorite characters from the show, the storyline is reportedly brand new, giving players a chance to enjoy a brand new tale through strategic battles that will bit your wits against those of the invading alien horde. It's also not likely to look like this 8-bit parody that has found its way around the web.
“Our goal for Falling Skies is to recreate the humanistic elements from the television series so that players can grow with the characters as they play through intuitively designed strategies,” said Little Orbit President Matt Scott. “We want to bring that same character-driven storyline derived from the series to the game, all while making it easy to navigate for every player.”
The Falling Skies game promises a “never-ending list of missions” pitting players against all manner of enemies, including Mechs, Skitters and Harnessed Humans from the show. You can also expect hundreds of character skills and equipment upgrades to unlock, meaning you’ll always be building your army into a leaner, meaner group of guerilla combatants. And, just to keep things nice and fresh, you can also expect map randomization and dynamic AI, meaning no two missions will ever be the same.
Sound like a good time? Then look forward to the game releasing later this year. Still need more info? Then check out all things Falling Skies at the show’s official website.
