The Mass Effect 2 teaser trailer and official announcement were both slim on details about the game's plot. Now, courtesy of Amazon.com, we know (slightly) more about what Shepard and company will be up to in the sequel.

"The second chapter in the Mass Effect trilogy takes you to the darkest reaches of space, where you must uncover the mystery behind the disappearance of humans across many worlds," reads the ME2 product description on Amazon. "Prepare yourself for a suicide mission to save mankind. Travel the galaxy to assemble a team of soldiers and combat specialists, and launch an all-out assault on the heart of enemy territory."

"Suicide mission to save mankind", eh? Awesome...and also still very vague. Still, someone at BioWare (either the writing staff or PR people) probably wrote this so I'll cherish it. Mass Effect 2 will be released for the PC and Xbox 360 in 2010.
