Sony is ringing in a new year of PlayStation Plus with a double dose of retro-styled entertainment courtesy of Mega Man IX and Mega Man X, as well as a chance for all subscribers to get in on the blood-soaked ground floor of the God of War: Ascension multiplayer beta.
Announced through the PlayStation Blog, this week’s Plus update begins with access for all subscribers to the God of War: Ascension multiplayer beta.
“God of War: Ascension beta is offering up the signature Team Favor of the Gods mode and the yet-to-be-seen Favor of the Gods mode,” said PlayStation Digital Platforms Community Manager Morgan Haro in the post. “In both modes, you’ll fight to reach the requisite number of favor points from the gods, earning points via kills, bonus brutal kills, opening chests, capturing domination points and, if you’re skillful enough, performing executions using the Spear of Olympus.”
The PS Blog post also sports a link to the beta community forum, where players can share their experiences, swap tips and let the developers know how everything is going.
Next up is a one-two-punch of classic gaming goodness in the form of Mega Man IX and X being added to the Instant Game Collection as a combo pack. Following the old school Mega Man formula, players will battle through various levels and defeat nefarious bosses in order to add their special abilities to your arsenal. Everything about these games harkens back to the original games in the series, from the graphics and soundtrack to the tough-as-nails difficulty.
As a final treat, Plus members will also be able to grab the strategy game, Eufloria for half off ($2.50), as well as snag a free download off the NCAA Football 13: Recent Winners Pack.
Look for these first Plus goodies of the new year to drop once the PlayStation Network update goes live tomorrow afternoon.
