Now that the actual boys of summer have officially taken the field, it’s time for those couch commandos playing MLB 2K13 to step up their own game with official launch of the “Perfect Game Challenge,” a competition tasking gamers with pitching a perfect game of baseball in order to earn their share of a hefty money pool.
MLB 2K13 actually launched early last month, meaning that players have had a good four weeks to get in some practice time in order to prepare for 2K’s annual Perfect Game Challenge. We announced at the time that the competition would begin on April 1 and, as of now, it’s officially live.
Announced by 2K Sports, this year’s competition will run through April 30 and offers more ways than ever before to become a winner. Players can compete to win up prizes from up to 30 $25,000 prize pools, one for each MLB team, with a combined prize of $750,000 being divided among the various pools.
“Competitors will need to monitor the Perfect Game Challenge leaderboards to ensure they maintain their ranking as new high scores are added,” reads a statement from 2K. “By using pitchers from different MLB teams, there is no limit on the number of $25,000 team prizes one player can win.”
In other words, you’ve got 30 teams worth of chances to prove you’re the best on the block.
Finally, the top four overall finalists from the PS3 and Xbox 360 will go on to compete in a single elimination tournament during MLB All-Star Week in New York for a shot at the $250,000 grand prize.
While even the highest payout won’t compare to an actual MLB pitcher’s salary, that’s still a pretty nice chunk of change for just playing a video game, no?
