After a tour of duty on PC through Steam, Mars War Logs has finally made the jump to consoles, releasing today on the Xbox 360. But Spiders Games isn't done inviting people to the Red Planet just yet. The developer has announced that their action shooter is also bound for the PlayStation Network, due out sometime this August.
Mars War Logs hit PC back in April, winning action fans over with its unique blend of shooting and stealth. One part Chronicles of Riddick, one part Arkham City, one part RPG, Mars War Logs offers loads of melee combat, shooty-shooty goodness and, yes, space magic.
As Roy, you head to Mars a generation after a massive cataclysm has cast the entire planet into turmoil. While dealing with his own problems, Roy will find himself caught right in the middle of an ongoing civil war as two sides battle for control of the planet's water resources.
“Follow an immense main quest in which every choice counts, develop your character and your combat style by choosing among many different talents and skills,” reads a statement from Spider. “In dynamic, real-time combat, face fearsome opponents including some of the most terrifying creatures on Mars. The craft system lets you create and modify your equipment, your weapons and your armor.”
Like any good modern RPG, your decisions during dialogue encounters and within the game will determine how likely your friends are to help out when you're in need, as well as have an impact on how Mars makes it through this ugly feud.
If you're in the market for something a little different, yet a little familiar, Mars War Logs might be just what the doctor ordered. If nothing else, you could always pretend you're Arnold in Total Recall and try to make a mental fan-fic out of it. Currently $20 on Steam, that's probably what you can expect to pay for the console version, too. Pick it up starting today for Xbox 360 and sometime next month on the PS3.
