Lots of shifts happening in the world of video game management and design. First it was Cliffy B., stepping away from Epic Games as its design director and now the president of Epic Games has decided to call it quits and move into an advisory role. What's up with Epic Games?
According to GameIndustry.biz, Capps has decided to step away from the hectic life of being the president of one of the largest independent game studios on the planet. This company is also top and center for the highly regarded and highly licensed Unreal Engine. Saying that the president has a lot of weight on their shoulders at Epic would be an “epic” understatement.
According to Mike Capps, who had been president at Epic for more than a decade, he wanted to put family first and be a stay-at-home dad....
“After dedicating a decade of my life to Epic, and with so many close friends here, it's impossible to just walk away,”
That's why he's moving into an advisory role on the board of directors. Development will be headed up by VP of operations John Farnsworth and VP of development Paul Meegan.
I'm curious how Epic will evolve from this point forward with so many of their talented head honchos stepping down and moving away from the thick of the operations? This is especially considering that Epic has been its most successful over the past decade with hits like Unreal Tournament and Gears of War, as well as striking major licensing deals with countless iterations of the Unreal Engine.
