Sine Mora Hits PlayStation Plus Alongside Horrifying Sales
It's a brand new week, which means it's time for a brand new PlayStation Plus update, this time featuring the bullet hell side-scrolling shooter, Sine Mora for the PlayStation Vita.
Usually going for 10 bucks, Sine Mora is free on Sony's portable console this week, giving gamers a chance to take on Grasshopper Manufacture and Digital Reality's unique spin on the “horizontal shoot'em up,” according to the official announcement.
“You're racing against the clock,” explains Sony Senior Community Specialist Kristine Steimer. “Instead of scoring points, you'll hunt down enemies to gain precious seconds and hopefully avoid the Game Over screen.”
But that's just one of the factors that sets Sine Mora apart from the herd. Basically, a bunch of gaming gurus got together and decided to tackle one of their favorite genres, bringing it kicking and screaming into the new generation. The game looks slick and plays just as smoothly. The story is deep, dark and presents some unexpectedly adult themes. Playing as a group of rebels, the various missions interlock in a way that unfolds one chapter at a time, though several of them are technically happening simultaneously. You actually need to pay attention to what's going on in the story, something that's never really been said about a shoot-em-ups narrative before. A small bit of dialogue in one mission might pop up in radio communications of another, giving you an idea of when in the story all of these events are taking place as the group of rag-tag renegades orchestrate a carefully planned, multi-faceted assault on their enemies.
More importantly, though, the shooting is fun and the boss fights are excellent. Any fan of the genre should have no problem picking up what Sine Mora is putting down, and it's unique twists might even create some brand new fans in the process.
Along with the free Vita game, week two of the Sale of the Dead promotion is all about horror this week, once again offering everyone on PSN some ridiculous sales on various spooky fare, including additional discounts for Plus subscribers. Once again, the list is too long to just plow through here, so head on over to the official post to give the entire batch of awesomeness a gander.
I will, however, pick and choose a few of my favorites to highlight here, just as an example of what you can expect out of “Horror Week.” For starters, both BioShock and BioShock 2 are down to five bucks, with Bloodrayne Betrayal, an absolutely wonderful side-scrolling action game, down to just $2.50.
Costume Quest is down to $3.75 in just in time for Halloween and both Fatal Frame and Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly have been marked down to $2 a pop.
Finally, and perhaps the discount I'm most excited for, is Siren: Blood Curse Episodes 1-12 for just $9.99. It's episodic horror action, it's cheap, and it'll be a great way to spend Halloween night.
