Billy Ray Rigs An Election

Billy Ray Rigs An Election Remember the movie Election with Matthew Broderick and Reese Witherspoon? It was about how a teacher tried to rig a school election because a student he hated was going to win. It even featured Hunter from The Office in his first role! Well, dirty tricks like that don’t just occur in school elections; sometimes grown-up elections include people trying to do things to screw the other candidate. That’s how we end up with movies like How to Rig an Election.

Variety reports the movie, which will probably begin filming next year, is based on a book of the same name by former Republican operative Allen Raymond. He did all sorts of things including jamming a Democratic phone bank during a New Hampshire Senate race in an attempt to sway a close election. Billy Ray (not Cyrus), the director of Shattered Glass and Breach, will write and direct the adaptation.

Raymond ended up in jail for the New Hampshire stunt and then wrote a book so he could ultimately profit from his wrongdoing. That’s the American way, right? Ray is a good director and this seems like a better project for his talents than a previously mentioned remake of Westworld. Ray is enthused about the subject matter, stating, "This is the story of Raymond’s rise to power alongside his friend in the party, Jim Tobin, and how their lives intersect in a way that forces Allen to choose between his ambition and his integrity. He makes the wrong choice at first, and by the time he makes the right one, his wife and kids are affected and his life is going up in flames." Wonder if this one will feature “Pick Flick” cupcakes.
